New Tournament Types! - Cumulative Kills
Maybe you're not a world-class sharpshooter like Big Buck Legends Jerad Berg, Alex Derhohannesian, Steve Guenther or Michael Jastrzembski. Maybe you just love having a pitcher of beer with friends and playin a few rounds of Big Buck with your
Cumulative Kills Tournaments keep track of your total cumulative bucks killed over the course of the tournament. You don't need to get a zillion points, just keep racking up kills. Each time you play a cumulative kills tournament game, all your bucks killed are added to your running total. The more you play, the higher your total. Don't worry if you miss a critter or two, just keep rackin' the bucks up!
This year the 2009 Big Buck Safari World Championship Qualifying Tournament will be a cumulative kills style tournament. Click here to find out what region you are in, and where to start playing!

New Tournament Types! - King of the Hill
Are you tired of competing against the top Big Buck players in the nation?
Do you feel like you have no chance of winning a prize?
If so, then Play Mechanix has introduced the perfect Big Buck tournament for you.
Play Mechanix has created a new style of tournament called 'King of the Hill'.
In a 'King of the Hill' style tournament, you don't compete against every player in the country, you only compete against the other players at your favorite location.
Perhaps you don't feel you stand a chance against some of the crackshots from across the country, but you know you can beat the stiffs at your own watering hole. Well this is the tournament for you. In a 'King of the Hill' tournament, the top score from each location wins a prize.
So if 5 people play a 'King of the Hill' tournament at your bar, the top player on that machine will win a prize.
Now you can't run all over town and get a first place score on every machine, because you can only win at one location (whatever location has your highest place).
Now everyone has a shot at winning a prize!

Michael Jastrzembski breaks the Tie
Michael Jastrzembski has broken the tie with Steven Guenther by surging ahead to 24540 pts and with a (seemingly) comfortable lead of 541 points in this months Big Buck Hunter Pro National Tournament.
He must have been using some of our tournament scoring tips.
Steven..?

Double Header - Double Vision
The first place and second place players currently have the EXACT same score of 23999. Michael Jastrzembski of Rochester, NY and Steven Guenther of Corpus Christi, TX after shooting 30 deer, 2 bonuses, and multiple critters, both have the identical score, down to the last point!
What happens in the case of an exact tie? In Big Buck tournaments, accuracy is the tie breaker. So in this case Michael's accuracy of 72% puts him above Steven's 59% accuracy.
And so the moral of the story is 'keep up your accuracy!' You never know when it's going to make the difference. In this case, it's the difference between $500 prize and $250 prize.

Calling Australian Citizens
The more obvious solution would, of course, be to bring bus in the top 10 Australian Big Buck Safari players, equip them with orange and green painted shotguns and turn them loose for a real-life 'Tarantula Bonus'.
How do the makers of Big Buck select what bonuses they are going to create for Big Buck games? It's obvious that they simply ask "what shooting skills would best benefit humanity", and let that be their guide.

Tenth Easter Egg Revealed - Get Huntin!
Yesterday we posted the 10th Easter Egg location in Big Buck Safari.
As you may recall the current Big Buck Safari National Tournament (aptly called The Great Easter Egg Hunt) has an Easter Egg at every site (In the video game universe, Easter Eggs mean secret or hidden bonuses). Yesterday we revealed the location of the 10th and final Easter Egg. Of course, finding these Easter Eggs increases your tournament score, so the more you find, the higher your score.
Now all the hiding places have been revealed.
What are you waitin' fer? Git out there and hunt!

Player Accounts for Dummies
1) Find an Online game
You can create a Player Account at your favorite Big Buck Hunter or Big Buck Safari game, as long as the game is an online game that is currently connected to the CoinUp Network. The simple way to tell if it's connected is to look for the CoinUp logo in the lower left hand corner of the screen. The color of the logo and the number of bars beneath it give you information about the connection (details HERE).
2) Create a Player Account
Once you have found an online game, you are ready to create a Player Account. Start the game as you normally would, however, after selecting whether you want to play a single trek or whole adventure, you will be given an option to play a 'Trophy Club' game. Shoot the 'Trophy Club' button. This means that your stats will be recorded and forever attached to your Player Account. Once you have paid, the game will ask you if you currently have a Player Account. Assuming this is your first time, you would select 'No' , after which the game will ask you to create a Player Account. In order to create a Player Account, you need to enter a 10-digit number that you can always remember, and the month and date of your birth. If you are a security freak, you can enter whatever fake-o numbers you like, you just have to always remember them. I suggest you enter your actual cell phone number and your actual birthday. That way, even if you've had a few brewskis, you can still remember it, or call up your mum and ask her. Besides, what are you afraid of? Are you afraid Pappy's going to call you up and wish you a happy birthday? Once you enter your 10-digit code, and your birthdate, the game will check and make sure it's unique (do you have a twin with the same birthday and phone number?). If it is unique, it will ask you for your first and last name. This name will show up now every time you log in. It might seem really funny to call yourself 'Hugh Janus', but you have to use your legal name in order to claim any prizes. Once you have completed this, the game will create your account. Congratulations! You now have a Player Account. Every time you play a Trophy Club or Tournament game, if you log-in with those same numbers, the game will show you your stats (Averages, Personal Bests, etc.). You can play both Big Buck Hunter and Big Buck Safari with the same Player Account. All your scores are attached to your one account, so when you play BBH you see your BBH stats, and when you play BBS you see your BBS stats.
Tired of entering your 10-digit number & birthdate each time? Get a Player Card. If you purchase a Player Card, you just have to swipe the card to log-in. It saves you from having to shoot in your 10-digit code & birthdate every time. It costs around $3 but is totally worth it. You can purchase it at the game by shooting the picture of the card in the lower right hand corner of the 'Welcome to Trophy Club' screen (after logging-in).
3) Viewing your Player Account on the Web
Once you've created a Player Account at the game, you can continue to play Trophy Club games and Tournament games to your hearts content. However, there's even more functionality and features you can unlock thru the Web. You don't have to, but assuming you are reading this on the Web, I'm going to guess that you probably would want to.
In order to view your Player Account on the Web you need to create a Web Login for your Player Account. This is called registering your Player Account. You can register a Player Account at either http://www.bigbuckhunter.com/ or http://www.bigbucksafari.com/. Both sites will work off the same Player Account. In order to register your Player Account (you only have to do this once) just click on the small button that says 'register' in the upper right hand corner of the web page. That will bring you to a registration page. Here you will enter 1) your 10-digit number that you enter at the game 2) the birthdate you enter at the game 3) an email address to use for your Web log-in and 4) a password to use for your Web log-in. Now again you can use fake email here, but there is a notice that goes out from Play Mechanix once a month that tells you about tournaments, promotions and other opportunities coming up. The once a month email is definitely worth giving up a real email address. After you've registered your Player Account on the Web, you can now log-in any time. You can see your Personal Bests and Lifetime Totals for all adventures and sites, you can compare your scores against National Bests and National Averages. You can follow how you're doing in Local and National Tournaments, you can FIND Local and National Tournaments near you (with maps). And you can Join Hunting Parties. More on Hunting Parties HERE.
4) Put up a cool picture
Once you log-in to the Web, click on the 'My Profile' tab. Then click on the 'Edit My Account' link right below your name. This lets you change any typos you might have made, maybe you mispelled your name in a drunken stupor at your favorite bar. This is the place to fix it. Also, this is a spot to upload a picture of you. Most of the time your name is mentioned on the web, it will show your picture next to your name. It's nice to see the faces next to all the names on the leaderboard. Don't upload a picture of your butt, because that's just rude. Besides, the people at Play Mechanix will filter it out anyway.
5) Create a Hunting Party
If you have a group of friends you always play Big Buck with, you should form a Hunting Party. Once you form a Hunting Party with your friends, everytime you play a Trophy Club or Tournament game, you can see your friends scores at every site. This way you can compete with your friends to have the best score at each site. Also, the word is that coming soon from Play Mechanix, you will be able to issue challenges to other people in your Hunting Party, (think Hunting Party Tournaments).
That's it! Play Mechanix has lots of cool Web & Game features currently in the works. Look for them to hit soon.
Enjoy!

The Great Easter Egg Hunt
Looks like we're going to have some fun with this month's Big Buck Safari National Tournament. This month's tournament, The Great Easter Egg Hunt, features one Hidden Easter Egg at every site!
Now before you start looking for brightly colored eggs under every tree, remember that in video games, an Easter Egg refers to a hidden secret. So were not looking for those striped eggs you used to make with your mum, were looking for Hidden Secrets.
Now it just so happens, that we here at the porch have been faithfully and dutifully recording hidden secrets (i.e. Easter Eggs) in Big Buck Safari and Big Buck Hunter Pro. If you look at the sidebar of this blog, up near the top, you can see a list of the Easter Eggs that we've already identified for you.
So write them down, go out to your favorite Big Buck Safari (online) location, and play the national tournament (starts April 1st), and find all the hidden easter eggs.
Oh and don't write them on your hand, because it's hard to shoot one-handed.

That's a heckuva shot!
We at Pappy's Porch would like to send out our congratulations to Alex Derhohannesian of New York, New York for taking 1st Place in Jungle Jam, the Big Buck Safari National Tournament. His score of 36323 pts, and perfect streak of 10 were very impressive, but even more impressive was his eye-popping 76% accuracy!
To better understand that feat, consider that there are 9 targets at each site (3 deer, 1 trophy animal & 5 critters). To obtain a 76% accuracy across 10 sites, you'd have to bring down all 9 targets in each site with less than 12 shots fired per site! Yikes!
Alex, we salute your high accuracy. Pappy says he thinks you got to be a crack shot from having to shoot all those letters in your last name when you login (he can be a bit surly sometimes).
We at the porch hope that for all you Big Buck players out there, that this brief story would serve as an inspiration to continue to aim high and to continue to improve your aiming skills.

Big Buck Legends: How Thor got his groove back
While these rituals may or may not improve your Big Buck hunting scores, some Big Buck players have developed some hunting rituals of their own.
Recently, Thor Fox, of St. Louis Missouri discovered an online Big Buck Hunter Pro at his local Cabela's. However, he noticed that he could never play as well at the online game (at Cabela's) as he could at the offline game at his local bar. Try as he might, he remained in a funk. Finally it dawned on him that he needed to follow the same hunting rituals at the Cabela's as he did at his local bar. So finally, to get out of his funk, and get his groove back, he had to bring a six-pack with him to Cabela's, set up shop, and suck down the beers while he played. And Voila! instant hunter hero. At one point his scores began to lag... so...(like popeye) he had to go out and get more
Thor, we have to respect a man who is so in tune with his inner hunter hero. We salute you. We are sending you your own 'Big Buck Hunter' beer sleeve, to keep those beers cold to keep your scores up.
Do you have a Big Buck Legend of your own? email it to mailto:dsnipes@playmechanix.com

Big Buck Safari - Google Gadget
Now you can track the Big Buck Safari National Tournament easily from your computer. Simply add this iGoogle Gadget to your iGoogle page.
The hard part is, once you see some doe-killin' noob has passed your score... It's obvious you need to drop what you're doing, get down to your favorite waterin' hole, take a couple of practice beer rounds, then put up a couple of sweet tournament scores - in order to restore order to the Big Buck Universe.
But what excuse do you give to your boss as you run out of your office, lucky rabbit foot in hand?
If you've got any can't miss excuses, put them in the comments, for all to see.
